History of Club de los Mondongueros Reno

In 1984, Clarence Crawford had established his retirement location at Reno, Nevada. Long a resident of Panama, where he had been the Station Manager for KLM Dutch Airlines and a member of Club de los Mondongueros Panama, Clarence decided to propose the establishment of a similar and affiliated club in Reno.

Dictator Mario de Diego agreed and executed an authorizing document, presented by Luis H. Moreno to Clarence Crawford at the original meeting of Club de los Mondongueros Reno on September 8, 1984, and designating Clarence Crawford as the original Dictator for Club de los Mondongueros Reno.

While Club de los Mondongueros Reno retains the basic principles of its Panamanian Parent, some differences have been mandated by its location. Tripe is not easily found in American restaurants, and is not a traditional favorite of the American palate. Also, the fact that it is not located in the national capitol city requires a somewhat different focus on the sources of its membership.

Long an aviation enthusiast, Clarence Crawford established an “interest in aviation” as the cohesive factor that would provide a commonality of interest to members of Club de los Mondongueros Reno.

Sharing the concepts of informality, cordiality, friendship and an absence of organizational structure as established by the Panamanian Club, the aviation focus of Club de los Mondongueros Reno has attracted a membership of men with an interest in aviation, including those who have enjoyed professional and avocational careers from across the spectrum of the aviation industry.

Three dictators have managed the Club de los Mondongueros Reno since its inception – Clarence Crawford, Tom Hallam and Gary Edwards. A short biographical section is included within this History Section for each of the dictators. Under the established precedent, the Dictator selects the heir to his position from the membership when he determines that it is time to retire from active service in that position. Thus, Clarence Crawford selected Tom Hallam to succeed him, and in turn, Tom later selected Gary Edwards.

On September 8, 2014, Club de los Mondongueros Reno marked its 30th Anniversary.
